The social media world were shaken when Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte announced to the public that there were 3 patients positive with COVID-19 in their city but what made the netizens furious was when she also stated that those 3 patients were sent home due to lack of space in hospital facilities.
“They’re all confirmed positive. They are not admitted. So, that’s a little shocking and a little disturbing, I think,” she said.
Another shocking revelation of Mayor Belmonte was that the patients who tested positive of the virus live in communities which were reportedly urban poor areas where dense living quarters could allow the virus to spread much more quickly.
“We are trying to look for ways to extract the positive persons from the rest of the group and brought somewhere else,” she added.
The three patients were initially under investigation (PUIs) who were asked to go home after being tested for the virus but since the hospital is swarming with patients and no infrastructure to keep those who are waiting, the three were sent home before knowing that they were positive of the virus.
Belmonte added, however, that even though they had not shown severe symptoms, the patients should have been picked up and brought to a facility as soon as the results came up positive.
“In this case, because of the lack of infrastructure, they are no longer picked up,” she said.
During a press conference, the Local Government of Quezon City were still attempting to locate the three patients based on the address that was given to the hospital. The facility that sent the patients home were not named by the city government.
Netizens were enraged by this act of the City Mayor, thus earning her a lot of criticism both in facebook and twitter. One of the netizen commented on her social media account;
Mayor Joy Belmonte is even
proud that they sent home a COVID-19 positive without even thinking that this
could cause more PUI of COVID-19 ano na saan ang utak mayor?
Due to this circumstance, several villages in Quezon City — the most populous metropolis in the country with about three million residents — were placed under an extreme enhanced community quarantine, under which there is a total prohibition on entering and exiting certain neighborhoods.
