In a world where obtaining a college degree is a privilege for some, being a house helper is frowned upon. It is a fact that not all of us are given the chance to go to college and finish our studies that’s why others resort to getting a job shortly after finishing high school but we have to keep in mind that getting a diploma in college will not give us the right to belittle others.

Internet star and Kapamilya actress, Ivana Alawi, has shared her thoughts about this when she was invited for a TV guesting in the hit morning show “Magandang Buhay”. Growing up in Bahrain her mother experienced discrimination for being a Filipina and was thought to be a helper.

Ivana narrated that when her mother was picking them up from school, Arabian mothers would often ask her if it was their helper fetching them but the actress would gladly reply a big NO, saying that it was her mother. Most foreigners would look up to Filipino women as house helpers.

During the interview, one of the host, Jolina Magdangal, added that there is nothing wrong with being a helper, it is a dignified job and helpers are one of the most hardworking people in the world.

In- house psychologist and family consultant of the show also said that these judgements were thrown because of ignorance and those who judge others are most likely miserable with their life that’s why they tend to pick up on others. On that day, the show also tackled how hypercritical people perceive those women who married other nationalities. Most people will say that the only reason Filipinas marry foreigners were because of money. This is a false perception because not everything is about money. We all have our own struggles and the least we can do is to be kind to one another.
